Black History Month

I have posted the music lessons that I created using picture books. Please let me know of any questions that you may have; I would be happy to help. The music that I used for these books can be found on I-Tunes. I'm sorry that I took so long in posting these.

  1. Thank you! These need to be submitted to the DOE as sample lessons that support the CCGPS. Thank you for taking the time to develop them!

  2. The students thoroughly enjoyed these lessons. In my class I rewrote the lessons to fit third grade Reading (3rd grade CC Describe, Explain, Respond) and Social Studies (3rd grade GPS Eleanor Roosevelt, Susan B. Anthony, Mary McLeod Bethune, Thurgood Marshall, Frederick Douglas, Cesar Chavez) to describe conditions and challenges Marian faced when coming home to the U.S. The class discussed the parallels between the famous people we learned during class highlighting that even though they might have lived in different time periods they faced similar challenges with prejudices and racial barriers in American society. These lessons were fun and the students were very engaged. However, some students did not respond as well as others. There are a few students that are not mature enough to listen to the music without giggling which caused the other green and gold students much frustration. Next time I might need to teach a social story prior to this. Thanks for sharing!
